Tackle the Issues: Health

About this event

Join us for the latest in our Tackle the Issues series, a joint venture between Ropetackle, Shoreham Wordfest and the University of Sussex, in which we try and get to grips with the big issues of the day – and none is bigger than health.

A panel, chaired by Professor Malcolm Reed, Dean of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, will look at the range of issues currently topping the health agenda.

The panel comprises Charles Godden, former consultant paediatrician and author of “Not in the Best of Health”, Sally Gainsbury, Senior Policy Analyst at the Nuffield Trust, and Dr Jo Monjardino, GP and Senior Practitioner at Shoreham’s Northbourne Medical Centre.

Clearly, the current state of the NHS, including lengthening waiting lists and the poor state of industrial relations – to name but two – will be central to the discussion, but there are other related topics that are sure to crop up, not least being the declining state of the nation’s health.

The first half of the evening will involve brief presentations by our panel, followed by a discussion among the panellists.

In the second half, it’s your turn. We open the discussion to you, in the hope that by the end of the evening, we might have made some small progress towards, if not tackling, at least gaining a greater understanding of this pertinent issue.
