Waterson, Carthy : Singing the Season - 17th December

Wednesday 17th December
Starts 7:45pm

The Royal Family of Folk!
Former Steeleye Span and Albion Band member Martin Carthy with his wife Norma Waterson present an evening of Music, Song, Dance and Mime from a time when Pagan rite and Christian rhyme lived side by side - a time when Christmas was perhaps less of a marketing opportunity and more of an expression of continuity.
This is a uniquely English take on the sort of thing found in just about every culture in the world.

This tour is an extension and continuation of the Watersons 1964 album of Ceremonial songs "Frost and Fire". They will be joined by Mummers, Dancers and Brass. Also forming an important part are Devil's Interval, three young singers who have recently graduated from the degree course in Traditional Music and Song offered by Newcastle University - the first of its kind in the country.
(We have only recently learned that Eliza Carthy will not be performing with her parents as she is unwell)
